SUN Cinema Feb 11: Paul Newman in "Our Town"

The play [filmed live on-stage] is ''Our Town,'' Thornton Wilder's quintessentially American meditation on mortality from 1938. And in the Westport Country Playhouse's rickety production, this is the galvanizing moment for the audience. For the actor who delivers the speech as Wilder's narrator, the avuncular character known as the Stage Manager, is Paul Newman.* And it is lost on no one that this American film icon and emblem of virility is a silver-haired grandfather." Bruce Weber, New York Times

Thursday, Feb. 11, 8:00 at the Sun Cinema. For info, see Biller's Bikes Events.

*Newman nominated for Tony Award (politely declined)

Filmed at the Westport Country Playhouse. SUN Cinema exhibition rights provided by PBS Pictures.
